Movie fans may have criticized the controversial ending of the last Superman movie "Man of Steel," but the film's director Zack Snyder stood his ground and even reveals that the scene will play an integral part in the forthcoming movie "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
The controversial ending of "Man of Steel" actually refers to the epic battle between Superman and General Zod, reports IGN, showing the superhero killing his opponent and destroying several skyscrapers and a big part of a city in the process - buildings where, presumably, a handful of innocent bystanders were hurt or killed. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Zack Snyder explained the reason behind the movie's destruction-heavy conclusion, saying, "I was surprised because that's the thesis of Superman for me, that you can't just have superheroes knock around and have there be no consequences," further saying that he had always intended for the dead to be counted.
Snyder also mentioned how the "Batman v Superman" film will be unlike other superhero movies where it seems that no one's getting hurt. "That's not us. What is that message? That it's okay that there's this massive destruction with zero consequence for anyone? That's what Watchmen was about in a lot of ways too. There was a scene, that scene where Dan and Laurie get mugged. They beat up the criminals. I was like the first guy, I want to show his arm get broken. I want a compound fracture. I don't want it to be clean. I want you to go, 'Oh my God, I guess you're right. If you just beat up a guy in an alley he's not going to just be lying on the ground. It's going to be messy."
Even actor Ben Affleck, who will play the character Batman, echoed the same sentiment, telling Entertainment Weekly that he liked Snyder's idea of "showing accountability and the consequences of violence and seeing that there are real people in those buildings." Affleck continues, "In fact, one of those buildings was Bruce Wayne's building so he knew people who died in that Black Zero event." Apparently, the consequence of that destructive scene will serve as a trigger for Batman to take the superhero down.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is slated to hit theaters on March 25, 2016.
