Hollywood is grieving deeply because of the loss of one of the most prominent actress in the showbiz industry. Diana Douglas, mother of the famous actor Michael Douglas and ex-wife of actor Kirk Douglas died at the age of 92 due to cancer.
Donald Webster, her husband for 15 years, informed the Hollywood Reporter and Deadline last Fourth of July, that Diana recently died battling cancer at the Motion Picture and Television Fund Nursing Home in Woodland Hills, California. His statement was quoted by CNN news saying, "She was a person much beloved by everyone. One of her greatest qualities was that she was always thinking of the other person."
Diana was the first wife of 98-year-old actor Kirk Douglas, Michael's father. They met in New York where they both studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. They have been together for eight years and they got divorced in 1951.
As reported by E Online news, Diana's real name was Diana Dill and she was born in Bermuda in 1923. She started her acting career in the year 1940's. The movie where both Diana and Kirk worked together was 'Indian Fighter' shown in 1955 and 'It Runs in the Family' shown in 2003, which also starred Michael and Cameron.
Diana also did a TV show with Michael on an episode of the 1970's series 'The Streets of San Francisco' and in the 1983 movie 'The Star Chamber'.
She played the role of Martha Evans in the year 1970's and 1980's in the 'Days of Our Lives' soap opera. She also did a couple of shows like 'Dynasty and The West Wing', and 1987 Comedy film hit 'Planes, Trains & Automobiles.' added by E Online news.
Diana's statements were quoted by Hollywood Reporter during her 2011 interview. She said, "I've always enjoyed Kirk's sense of humor, even when I was angriest at him." She added "He could always make me laugh, somehow, which annoyed the hell out of me. But then I think we both decided too, when the time of divorce came, that we had to maintain a certain amount of civility because of the children".
"I know Michael has said since being an adult that he was always very grateful that we never did badmouth each other. Sometimes we probably wanted to. And also, I think that after [Kirk] got married to Anne, [she] made it very much easier, because she and I cooperated very much in terms of bedtimes and what they could watch on television and that kind of thing," she was quoted as saying.
