The race is on for self-driving technology. Innovations have reached the car industry. Google's latest innovation promotes driving without drivers and according to an article from Fortune, "It's the first time since Google launched the project in 2009 and extended testing outside of California."
The Google cars technology was initially tested in Mountain View. There has been great development and achievement for Google as fortune.com reported, "Google's self-driving car experiment has leapt beyond the safety net of Silicon Valley and is now plying the streets of Austin, Texas."
Google's self-driving cars are roving the streest of Austin, TX. Google's Lexus RX450h SUVs have been cruising around a few square miles north and northeast of downtown Austin for the past few weeks as reported by Wall Street.
The car is embedded with cameras and sensors that will help the car make a complete data of the streets of Austin and according to Wall Street Journal, "Google's cars have cruised the streets, lane markers, traffic signals, curb heights, keep clear zones, and other information that helps the driverless software understand where the car is in the world."
Google is thankful to the warm support of Austin, Texas for their project. With Google's presence firmly placed in Austin, the location seems the ideal one for launching the project. Google has an office in Austin and the Google Fiber building is located in there as well. "Google says that Austin is a city that loves innovation, whether it's in music or food or technology, and we know they'll give us some great feedback on how we're driving," as reported by fortune.com
Another SUV of Google will soon follow later this week. Google hopes that the initial tests will run smoothly. It might be the break that all have been waiting for in the technology being tested. The self-driving cars will change the automotive industry for the coming years.
