Australian actress Ruby Rose will be appearing as a sci-fi seductress on television series "Dark Matter" starting July 24. In a report, the Daily Mail said the "Orange Is The New Black" (OITNB) star landed the coveted guest star role in the sci-fi thriller which is based on the Dark Horse Comics series.
Quoting comicbook.com, the report said Ruby Rose will play as Wendy, an entertainment android who charms the ship's crew with her talents until something goes wrong. The report also included a photo of Ruby in character pointing a gun. Wendy, her character, is dressed in monochromatic leather garb and sports cropped hair with much of the volume parted to the left while she looks intensely with parted lips.
Ruby Rose, now one of the hottest stars in Hollywood, rose to fame when she bagged a role in OITNB. According to Entertainment Weekly, Rose said that landing the role of Stella in OITNB soon after moving to the U.S. from Australia was unexpected.
"My first big job is maybe, arguably, one of the biggest television shows around at the moment with some of the best actors of our time," she said.
She said that at first she could not get an agent, a manager and an audition, making it hard for her to penetrate the U.S. market, particularly Hollywood. However, everything reportedly changed when she joined the Netflix series. She said the offer came out of the blue.
"I just got an email .... saying to do a self tape for the character of Stella and I self taped and I sent it in and I thought 'Id never hear anything ever again," Ruby was quoted in the report. "I got a call within a couple of days and I flew to New York and filmed. It was just a weird, seamless process. It was freakishly weird," she added.
Ruby, 29, is engaged to British designer Phoebe Dahl. She came out as gay at age 12.
