Fans of the hugely popular series "Game of Thrones," especially those residing in Spain, will be happy to learn that "Game of Thrones Season 6" has chosen several areas in Spain as part of the production's filming location. Cast member Emilia Clarke will also welcome Arnold Schwarzenegger, should the actor make a cameo for the series.
The HBO series will be filming in the Spanish city of Almeria, reports the Express U.K. The news was confirmed after Peter Welter, executive producer behind production in Spain, met with President of Andalusia Susana Díaz, the Minister of Culture Rosa Aguilar, and Manuel Gomez Cardenas, president of the Association of Audiovisual Production and Independent Producers of Andalusia.
The Express further reports that cast of "Game of Thrones Season 6" will be filming in Alcazaba de Almería, an ancient walled fort that was previously featured in films such as "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" and "Never Say Never Again", according to Spanish news organisation La Voz de Almería. It is still unclear where in the "Game of Thrones" universe will Almeria stand in the series. Although there are numerous possibilities such as Dorne, Daenerys and her Dothraki clan, and even Old Town.
Other filming locations that producers seem to be interested in includes the beaches of the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park, el Chorrillo de Sierra Alhamilla in Pechinas, and the Tabernas Desert. Producers were even eyeing a lighthouse located on a mesa called the Faro de Mesa Roldán in Carboneras.
Macedonia has also been announced as another filming location for "Game of Thrones Season 6." There are reportedly plans to film in the city of Prilep, the city of Ohrid by Lake Ohrid and the central-eastern region of Krivolak, where the country's largest military base is located.
Meanwhile, cast member Emilia who plays Daenerys Targaryen in "Game of Thrones" recently revealed that she welcomes the idea of "Terminator Genisys" co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger doing a cameo for the HBO series. During an interview with MTV News U.K., Clarke was asked if she thinks Schwarzenegger should get a cameo for "Game of Thrones," the actress replied: "Definitely! Absolutely," reports winteriscoming.net. When asked which role should the actor play, Clarke suggested a long lost Targaryen.
