Despite having a disappointing second season, Fox still renewed "Sleepy Hollow" for Season 3. According to earlier reports, the new season will feature new faces, new plot and a possible romance between Ichabod (Tom Mison) and Abbie (Nicole Beharie) after the expected death of his wife Katrina (Katia Winter).
According to Ecumenical News, it was also confirmed that Betsy Ross will make an appearance in at least one episode for Season 3. Her character was reportedly mentioned in Season 1 and Season 2. She is a colonial era seamstress who, according to legends, stitched the first American flag. According to reports, she is also Ichabod's old flame and lady friend. The actress who will be playing the role will be cast in a recurring role throughout Season 3.
Ross is described to be not only sexy but also as a strong spy who works in George Washington's Culper Ring. According to Christian Post, the producers are looking to cast someone who is ruthless and smart and can blend with any demands in a situation. As of writing, it has not been confirmed yet if Ross will appear in a flashback fashion like the character Abigail Adams (Michelle Trachtenberg) or in the present timeline.
Fans are also reportedly anticipating more information about the character in the show's panel schedule in the Comic-con, which will feature stars Tom Mison, Nicole Beharie and Lyndie Greenwood along with the show's executive producers.
Despite having low ratings during Season 2, the show managed to grab higher viewership during the Season 2 finale. It was speculated that the addition of the new character Betty Ross and the elimination of Ichabod's family will make way to new and more interesting storylines in Season 3. According to the show's official press release, there will be a surprising supernatural presence which will challenge Ichabod and Abbie in ways they have never imagined.
"Sleepy Hollow" Season 3 will premiere on October 1.
