The Los Angeles Lakers will be moving in to a brand new sleek home located near their old Toyota Sports Center HQ at the City of El Segundo, California.
The closing of the deal on the five-acre land was announced by team president and co-owner Jeanie Buss after receiving final approval from the city government. "With its proximity to the airport and beaches, clean air, diverse businesses, and wonderful community, El Segundo is the perfect place for us to be," stated Buss. "We've been here for the past 15 years with great success, and we're thrilled to secure the perfect spot to expand on that success and remain for many years as a part of this vibrant and growing area", the team president continued.
Designed by ROSETTI, an architectural firm known for their work on sports venues, the fancy building is reported to have two full practice courts and two half courts, with player-training facilities and amenity spaces and administrative offices.
In addition to being the home of the Lakers, the facility will also be housing the Los Angeles D-fenders of the NBA's Development League and they will play at the site in a new 750-seat exhibition court.
The design of the headquarters is focused on the incorporation of all aspects of the franchise, encouraging top athletes and top-level executives to have an over all association with the team's professional staff.
The building's exterior is designed to be highly visible and the view from the air has been taken into considerable account. A giant Lakers' logo will be on the roof of the new team headquarter inspired by the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy, awarded to the victors of the NBA Finals, which the Lakers have won sixteen times.
The sleek ROSETTI designed facility is to be built by the Morley Builders, a prominent Southern California building construction company, which is expected to be finished by the spring of 2017.
