'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7 Premiere Spoilers: Ian Somerhalder Excited For Damon To Be Without Elena

"The Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder recently talked about the upcoming installment of the show and revealed his excitement over Damon's future now that Elena (Nina Dobrev) is no longer around. In an interview with Extra, Somerhalder said that everyone's looking forward to sharing Damon's new story and everyone is excited to go back to the character's history from Seasons 1 and 2.

"We're actually very excited about telling this story. Mystic Falls without Elena Gilbert is going to be very different. We want to go back to that season 1 and season 2 of storytelling," he said.

Somerhalder also noted that Damon's future was already teased in the Season 6 finale episode. "I think that the last scene in the last episode that you see is truly a depiction of what this next season's going to be."

In Season 6 finale episode, Damon was featured looking over Mystic Falls. According to MTV News, the place will become even more chaotic now that Elena is no longer around. The publication also noted that there's a chance Damon will once again become the show's antagonist, so he could be the cause of Mystic Falls' downfall.

This speculation may actually be true because Somerhalder previously said that Damon will go back to his roots of being the mean vampire. With this, his brother Stefan (Paul Wesley) will once again be responsible for saving the lives of the residents of Mystic Falls.

In other news, Damon and Bonnie may also develop feelings for each other in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7. This does not mean though that Stefan's new motto will be "All work and no play." The latter will also develop feelings for his good friend Caroline and the latter will reportedly serve as the lead star in the upcoming seventh installment.

"The Vampire Diaries" will premiere on the CW on October 8.
