Donna Karan, the world renowned designer for Donna Karan International and the champion for fashionable women, has stepped down as the chief designer of the clothing company. The 66-year-old has expressed her desire to focus her efforts on her other company known as the Urban Zen Company, which focuses on wellness and artisanal goods and its Foundation. Urban Zen was founded by Donna Karan together with designer Sonja Nuttall in 2007. Urban Zen showcases not only ready-to-wear fashion and accessories but also other products for home and decor and beauty in several of its retail stores. It's foundation was established with the aim create and connect awareness of cultural diversity and preservation and promote integrative healthcare and well-being.
Donna Karan began her career in the design industry with Ann Klein after leaving college in the late 1960s. In 1984, she left the house and started her own company and has then become a favorite among fashionable women. The last collections created under Donna Karan's creative course in the company is the fall 2015 and resort 2016.
The fashion design expert has said in a recent press release, "I have arrived at a point in my life where I need to spend more time to pursue my Urban Zen commitment to its fullest potential and to follow my vision of philanthropy and commerce with a focus on health care, education and preservation of cultures."
Donna Karan International's parent company, LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton which bought house in 2001 will not be replacing Karan and has no plans of continuing the collections for now. Furthermore, there won't be a show at New York Fashion Week in September. Following Karan's decision to step down is a rumor circulating that LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton will be making cuts by laying off employees at the Donna Karan label.
