Serena Williams is Just One Win Away from another Grand Slam Milestone

The top-ranked Serena Williams maintained her 11-year dominance over Maria Sharapova, beating the Russian 6-2, 6-4 on Thursday to reach her eighth Wimbledon Championship match and 25th career Grand Slam final.

According to the news reported by BBC Sports, the five-time Wimbledon champion, Serena, won her 26th consecutive Grand Slam match by beating Sharapova for the 17th straight time.

Williams served 13 aces, including three in the final game, had 29 winners and never faced a break point in overpowering the fourth-seeded Sharapova, who hit six double-faults and couldn't find a way to cope with her rival's relentless pace. Williams was thrilled to reach her 25th Grand Slam final, saying: "I'm so excited. I got a bit nervous because it was a semi-final and it's a long time since I've been this far."

Sharapova felt disappointed on her performance against Williams, she released her statement on BBC Sports saying:

"I think for many others, maybe if I was British, a semi-final would be incredible, I'd be on the front page of the paper, I know that."

"But I expect myself to be a champion of these events, and it's disappointing to come out as a loser because I know my level can be there, and my level can be at the point of holding these championship trophies."I know that that's what keeps me going forward." - She told BBC Sports.

According to the news reported by the USA Today, Williams' opponent in Saturday's final will be 21-year-old Garbine Muguruza who beat Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the first semifinal. She's the first Spanish woman to advance to the Wimbledon finals.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Williams never won all four Grand Slams in one year, but she got victories in the Australian and French Opens. If she wins on Saturday, she's going for a fourth straight major title - a "Serena Slam" - and the third-leg of a calendar-year Grand Slam.
