The ABC police procedural drama has been recently rumored to have two of its lead characters - Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) breakup in the upcoming season. Fillion recently addressed these rumors and insisted that change is necessary.

"Castle" Season 8 is currently plagued with intrigue after a recent blind item about a fan-favorite couple from an aging series breaking up in the upcoming season surfaced on the Internet. Rick Castle and Detective Kate Beckett's relationship immediately entered everyone's minds, as the recent addition of a new character named Hayley hinted that she would be spending a lot of time with Rick.
Nathan Fillion, who plays Rick Castle in the ABC series, recently spoke with TV Line and addressed these speculations. While the 44-year-old actor assured fans that they should not be worried about the ongoing rumors about Casket's relationship, Fillion seemingly confirmed fans' worries when he said that change is inevitable.
"In order for a show to continue and move forward, things have to change and things have changed over the years for these two. It's simply another change, and it's going to be great," Fillion said.
Fillion also noted that he still remains hopeful that "Castle" Season 8 will not be the end of the series and will still continue with more seasons in the future.
Meanwhile, Stana Katic previously teased fans via a Twitter post that the upcoming season of the crime drama will be a "nail-biter." The 37-year-old actress also recently revealed that she still has not seen the premiere script for the upcoming season, Carter Matt cited.
"Dunno. Haven't seen it, yet," Katic wrote.
"Castle" Season 8 premiere episode titled, "XY" airs on Sept. 21 on ABC.
