The cast and creators of Storybrooke had some exciting revelations when they attended the San Diego Comic-Con 2015 last July 11. According to Daily News, the crew announced that they will have a new character added to the show. It was revealed that Merida from Disney's "Brave" is set to head to Storybrooke in Season 5.
The Scottish princess will also be played by a Scottish actress, Amy Manson, as the show returns for Season 5 and also for their 100th episode in the spring. According to co-creator Adam Horowitz, Merida is a very well-defined and contemporary character for the modern age. He also added that he and his partner Edward Kitsis are dedicated to respecting the Disney heroine. He emphasized that they want to honor the character's great traits and find a way to insert her seamlessly into the "Once Upon A Time" world.
Despite already having introduced a number of Disney characters in the show like Elsa from "Frozen," Snow White, Geppetto, Pinocchio and also the Evil Queen, the creators reportedly still feel a lot of pressure since Merida will be the first Pixar animated studio character that will be featured in the show.
According to Hollywood Life, during the Comic-Con event, a teaser was also revealed, which showed Merida's archery skills and her signature red curly hair. The first look at the Dark Swan was also unveiled. The fans saw Emma (Jennifer Morrison) with a new look with her slick black hair, bleached eyebrows and glowing skin.
It was earlier reported that the show will also be introducing other new characters in Season 5. Fans are eager to find out if the sorcerer Merlin, who will reportedly be played by Elliot Knight, will be the one to save Emma from total darkness. Camelot's Guinevere and Percival, which will be played by Joana Metrass and Andrew Jenkins, respectively, are also set to be introduced in Season 5.
"Once Upon A Time" Season 5 will air on September 27.
