"Twilight" actor Peter Facinelli will play Maxwell Lord in CBS' upcoming TV series, "Supergirl." According to Comic Book, this was the announcement made by Warner Bros. Television at their Comic-Con panel in San Diego.
According to the site, Lord was first introduced in the Justice League International era of the comics as a liaison between the League and the United Nations. Later, he was used as a villain in Infinite Crisis. In that iteration of the character, he headed up Checkmate, a quasi-governmental organization under Lord, which was aimed at policing and sometimes terminating superhumans.
On "Supergirl," Maxwell is reportedly a green tech billionaire who enjoys a friendly rivalry with Cat Grant and a fascination with Supergirl. Facinelli's addition to the cast of "Supergirl" reportedly brought excitement to the show's crew.
"Greg (Berlanti), Ali (Adler), and I have been fans of Peter for years. We're beyond thrilled to have him join us on 'Supergirl's' first adventures bringing the iconic Maxwell Lord to life," "Supergirl" executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said as quoted in the report.
Whether Lord will be part of the DEO's chain of command or part of another organization isn't clear yet, the report added.
Meanwhile, according to ET Online, the "Supergirl" cast dropped by the Comic-Con event and met with fans. Star Melissa Benoist said that she is looking forward to becoming a role model for young girls with her new role.
"It's a daunting feeling in the best way because obviously it feels like a responsibility but I love that I can do it in this way -- that she's quirky and kind of weird and flawed and funny in a way that Kara [Zor-El] is discovering herself right now when we meet her in the pilot," Benoist was quoted by ET Online. "I'm glad I can show girls that you can do anything that you want to do."
Benoist also guaranteed that fans are going to enjoy their interpretation of Supergirl, especially since they have a perfect team supporting them. "Supergirl" will be shown on October 26 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
