At the Fox drama's panel at the San Diego Comic-Con 2015 last Saturday night, Bruno Heller, the highly-rated tv series' showrunner concluded that "Gotham" Season 1 was "was very much about old-school Gotham," under the thumb of garden-variety thugs. "This season, it's the rise of the villains," he revealed, as the city "starts to decline into chaos." So where do these baddies come from?
In a report from TV Line, Executive Producer-Director Danny Canon explained that "Gotham" Season 2 features "what Gotham can give birth to when people start to feel power within themselves and don't feel the urge to answer to morality."
Of course, Oswald Cobblepot or Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) is already ruling the villains right now. "He's prepared to fight to stay up there," Taylor said. "But it's never a smooth ride with Oswald!"
That means, Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) could totally use reinforcements. "As the villains rise, there's an arms race, and the good guys have to increase their force as well," says McKenzie. "There'll be new heroes introduced."
Now, would the so-called heroes in "Gotham" Season 2 already include the young Bruce Wayne?
David Mazouz who plays Bruce Wayne explains, "It's going to be through multiple things. Bruce Wayne has multiple personas. He has Batman persona, but he also his public playboy persona to fool everyone. And moving into season two, we'll see more of that second persona from Bruce. Another way, on the villains side, we're going to see the villains shift from mobsters to super villains. The villains that we know in Batman are going to be the ones who take over Gotham. Penguin is at the threshold right now, but he's going to meet people who are ten times worse. And because the threat of villains is going to be so immense, the heroes will really have to team up. So you'll see Bruce and Gordon team up a lot more. And because of that, Bruce will get out a lot more. Gordon is really going to start that mentorship we talked about. They're really going to start to become closer, and because of that Bruce will find himself more involved with the crime world."
