Microsoft Xbox One Update To Feature Windows 10 Game Streaming & Compatibility

Earlier this week, Microsoft has announced that an Xbox One update will be rolled out to ensure that the video game console will be compatible for Microsoft Windows 10. Dubbed as the "July Xbox One Update," Xbox One owners will be prompted to download the updated software commencing this week, a report from Tech Times said.

In the wake of this development, software giant Microsoft, however, stressed that Xbox owners won't be expecting new features once the update is rolled out. The company explained that such update was only meant to make the Xbox One console platform compatible for video game streaming in Microsoft Windows 10. The update reportedly prepares the console for backward compatibility with available titles from Xbox 360, according to Tech Times.

"Later today Xbox One owners will be getting a system update. This update prepares for game streaming to Windows 10 (launching July 29th) and our upcoming Backward Compatibility feature launching in a few months. There are no new user-facing features in this release as the team focuses on the New Xbox One Experience that will be available later this year," said Xbox's Live Major Nelson as quoted in the same website.

An earlier report from Gamepresso indicated that Microsoft Windows 10 will reportedly be integrated in the Xbox One console. The Windows 10 integration into the Xbox One comes with a companion console application. It reported that the new system will be able to support other cross-platform play since it will be independent from Xbox Live platform. Users can reportedly stream games from Xbox One to any PC platform including those users who are part of Windows Insider and Xbox One Preview programs.

According to the same website, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, explained that this was part of Microsoft's initiative to allow sharing of applications across devices. He added that his group has given Windows 10 a high level of importance. "We'll treat gaming on Windows 10 with the same passion as we've put into the Xbox console," said Spencer.
