Samsung recently secured an international patent for a fat-measuring mobile phone. Tech Radar reported that a new patent was posted on the World Intellectual Property Organization website that shows the Korean electronics giant's plan to use mobile devices to make body fat analysis.
According to the report, the patent explains that the technology will require four sensors that could be embedded in phones, or it can be installed on a phone cover. The report, which includes an image, shows a person holding a phone parallel to the ground in front of him.
According to the patent document, the sensors are meant to work together; they must make contact with the user's body to measure the body fat on the basis of "impedance information." However, the report noted that while Samsung has the patent, it is not a guarantee that the company will use it on its future phones. It is, however, reportedly interesting to see that the firm is developing health and fitness tech.
Currently, Samsung has a built-in app that promotes wellness. S-Health is a Samsung smartphone owner's personal fitness coach. Using the app, the gadget user can set targets, track everyday activities and reach goals toward becoming fitter and healthier, according to app's website.
The app also features intuitive charts and helpful tips. The Goal feature guides a Samsung smartphone user towards achieving his health and fitness targets.
Another feature of the S Health is the Trackers. It does not only track activities but also measures and manages health and environmental records such as heart rate, SpO₂, and ultraviolet using the built-in sensors in Samsung smartphones and wearables. S Health also has a voice guide that allows its user to keep his pace so he can accomplish his fitness milestones.
S Health also features other apps that promote health and fitness. These include Kiqplan Fit & Healthy, Your.MD Symptoms Checker, Recipes & Nutrition, Lark activity tracker, and Workout Trainer.
