'Star Wars: Episode 7' Release Date: J.J. Abrams Confirms At San Diego Comic-Con That The Script Is Still Being Edited

New information for the upcoming "Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens" was teased by director J.J. Abrams at the San Diego Comic-Con on Sunday. According to Design N Trend, Abrams confirmed that the script for the upcoming installment is still being edited.

In an interview with The Guardian, Abrams said, "We're editing. We have a cut of the movie. We're in this extraordinary moment where we're doing fine-tuning. I say extraordinary because we're in a moment where there are release dates before there are scripts, and Disney has given us the time to make the movie what it wants to be."

Meanwhile, back in May, Abrams also talked about the sequel and said that his aim is to combine the right amount of nostalgia with novelty. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the director said that "Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens" is not a remake of what fans have already seen before.

"It's about inheriting and embracing the elements of 'Star Wars' that are the tenets of what is so powerful," he explained.

In other news, Abrams explained why he didn't hire any Asian actors to star in the movie. According to him, he was simply not in charge of casting that's why no Asian actors were part of the film. However, if it were up to him, he will hire as many Asian characters as possible.

Moving forward, Abrams said that he would want a more diverse casting for the "Star Wars" franchise. "We didn't write the character of Finn to be any color. We didn't write the character of Rey to be any color. We want our film to look the way the world looks," he said.

"Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens" is slated for release in the United States on Dec. 18, 2015.
