Windows 10 Update: Spurs A Few Questions From Consumers, What does "Free" Actually Mean?

Windows 10 will soon be available for everyone. And since it is 'free', people are quite excited to update. In fact, Microsoft has already received millions of pre orders. But the problem that this 'free' update has created is that, people are not really sure what this exactly means. Microsoft fails to clarify everything. No one really knows whether this free update has a catch, or if Microsoft just simply did not bother to explain anything. But in a world full of distrust, people want their questions answered before they get that free upgrade.

Windows is owned by Microsoft, and Microsoft is a big company. So we know that they can change their terms and charge us with whatever fees they like. So we should always be informed about any updates before we proceed to installing it. When they stated that Windows 10 is free "for the lifetime of the device", it spurred a question as to what does that mean. If you do not really get to think about it, it just implies that it is free forever. But Microsoft has internal slides that mentions "2 to 4 years" and that the conditions may vary depending on customer type. So this creates an issue within its consumers.

Also, when it comes to their operating systems, Microsoft can always decide when to end its technical support. So that creates another question, "How long will they support Windows 10?". In the company's website, they have already shared the expiration of their support system for the XP, Vista, 7, and 8. But the Win10 is not yet there. People need to know that even before the new upgrade arrives.

Microsoft has already confirmed the date for the availability of Windows 10. It will roll out the new upgrade in 190 countries on July 29. The update will be first provided to the 4.4 million people who participated in the Windows Insider Programme. So, we definitely hope that they make everything clear before the 29th of July arrives.
