Before "Supergirl" airs its pilot episode in October on CBS, there are still a lot of things people need to know about the heroine.
According to Movie Pilot, the lost daughter of Krypton initially appeared in Superman comics #123. DC Comics apparently used this to test if the public would like the Supergirl character. After some positive fan responses, the first recurring Supergirl also known as Kara Zor-El debuted in Action Comics #252.
In the story, after the destruction of planet Krypton, Argo city had survived and started drifting through space. Zor-El, who is Kara's father, sent her to earth when the city became bombarded with green kryptonite meteors, killing all of its inhabitants. After she lands on earth, she adopts similar powers like Superman and later also takes on a secret identity named Linda Lee.
She then resided in Midvale Orphanage and was later adopted by Fred and Edna Danvers. When she gained control of her powers and asked for her cousin's (Superman) blessing, she started to be Supergirl and her battle with different villains like Black Flame and Reactron began.
The CBS show will star Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers. She will be hiding her powers and will try to live an ordinary life in Capital City as an awkward assistant to a powerful media mogul. In the show, there will be circumstances which will force her to use her powers in public in order to fight a powerful alien menace.
According to Den of Geek, the pilot episode of the show will move fast with Kara getting in the costume during the halfway mark of the show. Supergirl's costume was designed by Academy Award winner Colleen Atwood.
The pilot episode will reportedly be like other pilots in which characters will introduce themselves to the audience with a series of possible beats. However, the show promises a lot of action-packed scenes in the weeks ahead.
The pilot episode of "Supergirl" will air on CBS on October 26.
