George Lucas, Eagles, Carole King to Receive Awards in Kennedy Center Honors 2015

Last Wednesday, awardees for the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors, now on its 38th year, were announced. Recipients of the awards were "prolific people" who had lifetime contributions in the American Performing Arts. Honorees for this year were Director George Lucas, Carole King, the band Eagles, conductor Seiji Ozawa, and actresses Cicely Tyson and Rita Moreno.

The gala for this upcoming awarding ceremony will be on Dec 6 and will have a broadcast of the event on Dec 29 that will be shown by CBS.

According to The Wrap, the selection criterion for the said awarding are based primarily on excellence and is not limited to any designation in art form or category. The upcoming ceremony on Dec 6 will be produced by Ricky Kishner and Glenn Weiss. The glamorous event will also be star-studded which will include the President and Mrs. Obama and leading performers from art capitals in the world and in New York and Hollywood.

From Variety, Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein said regarding the Eagles music, "has endured as the quintessential American rock and roll sound for generations." While for King he said "heartfelt lyrics and tunes (that) are woven throughout the tapestry of American music."

Deborah Rutter, the president of Kennedy Center said, "Each honoree and their career-spanning achievements exemplify a rare quality of artistic bravery" and "They have pushed the limits of their gifts as musicians, actors, and storytellers to inspire generations of Americans and those around the world."

From The Wrap's article, Kennedy Center Honor medallions will be presented first on Dec 5 in a State Department Dinner hosted by Secretary of State John Kerry.

The Kennedy Center will also be having a contest that will make one lucky contestant win two tickets for the said gala using the hashtag #SendMeToHonors.
