'USS Indianapolis' Release Date, Cast, News: Nicholas Cage and Paul Walker's Brother Cody To Star in Upcoming True Story of Survival

Cody Walker, the late Paul Walker's brother, was signed to cast a supporting role for the movie, "USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage." He was cast alongside Actor Nicholas Cage and the movie is directed by Mario Van Peebles.

USS Indianapolis (CA-35) is a heavy cruiser that sunk 12 minutes after being torpedoed by Japanese Submarine I-58 in the South Pacific Sea in July 30, 1945. It was a horrific, true story of survival of 317 US Naval Marines. Nicholas Cage will play the character of Capt. Charles Butler McVay who is the Naval and Commanding Officer of the heavy cruiser while Cody will play one of the crewmen.

According to BBC published July 29, 2013, out of 1,200 men only 317 sailors survived in the tragic event. The then survivors were found after five days in being in the sea, they told stories like some of their fellow navy men died due to drowning, been eaten by sharks, dehydration, and saltwater-poisoning. While some experienced hallucinations and became delirious.

According to the Variety, Sabbath Films acquired US rights for the said film and it was scheduled for release on the weekend of Memorial Day, 2016.

It was said in the previous articles by The Hollywood Reporter that Cody really wants to pursue an acting career and was currently signed up a contract for Paradigm and he is being managed by Paul Walker's manager Matt Luber. He actually played his brothers' role before for "The Fast and the Furious 7" movie as a stand in due to the untimely death of Paul Walker.

"USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage" is a Patriot Pictures Project. It will be produced by Michael Mendelsohn and Rionda del Castro. Cody will be acting alongside actors Tom Sizemore, Thomas Jane, and Brian Presley.

Aside from this debut acting career of Cody, he acts as the Brand Manager of his late brother's Reach Out Worldwide Foundation according to The Hollywood Reporter.
