Before "The Flash" returns for Season 2, the show revealed that it will be taking a DC Comics hero and will turn him into a villain in the upcoming season. According to recent reports, the CW has cast retired WWE star and Hall of Famer Adam Copeland to play the Atom Smasher.
According to the website, the character is described as one of the most powerful enemies The Flash will encounter this season. Atom Smasher is said to come to Central City to kill The Flash. He has incredible strength and has the ability to grow into enormous size, which will give The Flash and the entire S.T.A.R. Labs team a challenge.
This is going to be a big change from the original DC Comics where Atom Smasher is the alter ego of Al Rothstein and grandson of the infamous Cyclotron. He is also the godson of the original Atom, Al Pratt, the role filled by Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh).
Den of Geek reported that Jay Garrick, who is the original Golden Age Flash, has been cast for Season 2. Garrick appeared as The Flash back in 1940. Jay Garrick will be played by Teddy Sears. According to the report, Jay Garrick is a mysterious figure who will arrive in Central City to warn Barry Allen and his team about an impending danger in which the superhero alone cannot stop.
According to showrunner Andrew Kreisberg, they are excited to add Jay Garrick in the story. He also added that Teddy Sears is the perfect person for the role of the original Flash.
Victor Garber also confirmed earlier that he and Robbie Amell will appear on Season 2 and will premiere as Firestorm. He also assures DC Comics fans that his ability of "matter manipulation" will surley be reintroduced in the upcoming season.
"The Flash" returns on The CW, on Tuesday, October 6.
