Real Estate Tip: 6 Things In Your Home That You Don't Actually Need

While most home design accessories are used to make a room look complete, others just don't serve the same purpose - some serve no purpose at all.

What you once thought you need, actually just add to the visual clutter rather than help improve the look of your space.

Here are 6 things in your home that you don't actually need according to About Home:

Toilet seat covers and rugs

No one needs a matching toilet seat lid cover and a rug that fits cozily around the base of the toilet. For one, these can only serve as breeding grounds for germs and bacteria, plus they just add to your already piled-up laundry. Also, do you really need to bring the eyes' attention to the toilet by decorating it with carpet-like covering?

Lots of picture frames

Having too many picture frames hung on the wall - they don't even match and most of them are cheaply made - just doesn't make your space look more attractive. While it's true that a house, particularly a family home, has to have that family picture displayed, it doesn't mean that you frame each and every photo in every important family affair for your guests to see. The solution is to choose some of your favorites and get them nicer frames and display them with more purpose. For instance, you can create a gallery wall, or you can line the staircase with your most-loved photos.

For mismatched frames, you could spray paint them in the same color to give them that sense of cohesiveness when displayed in a group.

Outdated curtains

Take a look at your curtains; is the print or style dated, are they too short for the window, are they faded by the sun? Some curtains just need to go, and sometimes, you don't even need a curtain if you have beautiful windows with original woodwork. If you need to cover your windows, try bamboo shades or shutters topped with a simple valance or tailored panel to have privacy without compromising the look of your space.

Florists' vases

You don't need a cabinet full of vases! Some of those could even be made of cheap glass. You only really need three to four pretty vases in various sizes to use for fresh flowers - quality over quantity!

Fake flower arrangements

Every room needs something living to give it life and a sense of energy, and yes, live-looking things like fake flower arrangements don't count. Instead of collecting dust and making your space look dated, why not go for a live tree, easy-to-grow houseplants, fresh flowers, or a bowl of fruits on the table?
