Gamers might not be able to receive a physical copy of the "Shenmue 3" video game once its Kickstarter project ends. Apparenty, only gamers who were Kickstarter backers and shelled out at least $60 as financial support for the project can get a copy of the game, iDigitalTimes reported on Thursday.
iDigitalTimes said that once the "Shenmue 3" Kickstarter page ceases to accept monetary donations to fund the game development, other gamers are not guaranteed to have a physical copy of the video game as it might not be available for sale in retail stores. As the report noted, the developer has scheduled July 17 as the last day to donate to the "Shenmue 3" project.
"Whether Shenmue 3 will be available for retail or not is currently unconfirmed," said Ys Net, the developer, as quoted in the same report. Ys Net said this as response to the question of the possibility that a "Special Backer Edition" will be available after the Kickstarter project ends.
However, the report emphasized that gamers can still play the video game via a digital download specifically for PS4 consoles or PC platforms. At present, "Shenmue 3" Kickstarter project has reportedly raised over $5.27 million since June. Also, actors Masaya Matsukaze and Corey Marshall will serve as the voice actors for the Japanese and English voices of Ryo.
"We have been getting a lot of questions asking if Masaya Matsukaze will be the Japanese voice of Ryo for 'Shenmue 3'. Yes, it is official, Mr. Matsukaze will be reprising his role as the voice of Ryo! Yu-san said Masaya-san and Corey-san were the best fit for the respective Japanese/English voice of Ryo, and couldn't imagine any different. Big cheers to that!," the project creators reportedly wrote on the Kickstarter page as quoted in the iDigitalTimes report.
According to VG247, Ys Net has announced that it will give additional details of the rumored retail release of the "Shenmue 3" video game, which will be posted on Kickstarter. It has not, however, provided a specific time frame as to when the company will make such announcement.
