DC Movies Update: How Melissa Benoist Prepared Physically For Her ‘Supergirl’ TV Series

Melissa Benoist may not be a familiar name to the comic book crowd. She was seen doing her performances on musical drama-comedy, "Glee".

And now, she will be making a huge step in her career. She will be having her leading role as Kara Zor-El on the upcoming CBS 'Supergirl' TV series. The newest 'Supergirl' unveiled her preparation to achieve body that suits for the character.

The newest "Girl of Steel" found herself going through an especially demanding training regimen to portray the Kryptonian.

According to the news reported by People, Benoist revealed that boxing made her physically fit for the 'Supergirl' role.

During the roundtable cast at San Diego Comic-Con last Saturday, she said, "I don't think I've ever hit anyone before, and so I definitely had to learn technique - like how to actually punch someone and not hurt yourself more than you're hurting the person you're punching. And core work and Pilates and [plyometrics], a lot of it," she stated as quoted by the People news.

She also stated that boxing also makes her motivation and drive on heat, "The motivation [from working out], the drive, it definitely affects [you]," she said "I don't have a choice ... I can't sit down and be like, oh, I'm done. I want some popcorn. I have to stay on top of my game," she added.

Benoist also excitedly talked about her "flying scenes" on the series. People also quoted her statement saying, "the wire work is really difficult, but so fun. And when you get it right, watching the result is exhilarating. It's a really, really cool feeling to know what it felt like, the energy I had to exert to create those flying scenes. And then the way they look is really rewarding."

Cinema Blend reported that the actress want to do her stunts personally. Though, she needs to have a double on the more dangerous ones.

Benoist's Kara Zor-El, also known as Kara Danvers will begin the series with a normal life. She tried to keep her powers hidden, but eventually come out because of an unexpected disaster.

The 'Supergirl' will hit CBS channel on Monday, October 26 at 8:30 PM EST. It will move to its normal 8 PM EST timeslot on November 2.
