Taylor Swift is always making headlines not only because of her music but also because of her fashion. Now it was reported that the 25-year-old singer will be launching her own clothing line in China.
According to Refinery 29, the clothing line will be exclusively sold on JD.com, which is China's second largest online commerce site, and will start selling goods later this summer. The clothing line is set to coincide with the arrival of Swift in the country for her 1989 World Tour Concert in Shanghai in the fall.
The clothing line is said to be composed of a collection of dresses, tops and sweatshirts. The clothing line is also targeted specifically for the pop star's fans abroad, so there is a big chance it won't be available for fans living in the stateside.
It is known that as Swift's popularity in China grows, the number of unauthorized Taylor Swift merchandise has entered the online market. Wall Street Journal reported that Swift decided to open her own line in China to get rid of the counterfeiters. According to the website, aside from JD.com, Swift will also open her line to Alibaba Group Holding.
By August 8, 2015, both online markets will carry Swift's $60 branded shirts. These items will all have antipiracy hanging tags, which will help consumers track the authenticity online. With the new merchandise, the singer joins the crowded bandwagon of American lines that are also featured in China's online markets.
Just recently, it was reported that The American Apparel & Footwear Association issued an open letter to the chairman of the online market Alibaba because of the company's lack of action against posting of fake goods in the site. As of writing, both online markets are now working on removing the unauthorized goods from their websites. In addition, they promised to protect Swift's intellectual property and also the rights of their stakeholders.
