Now that the MTV Video Music Awards 2015 nominations are already out, rapper Nicki Minaj posted her disappointment of being snubbed in her Twitter account. According to Time, the rapper voiced out her opinion about the racism in the music industry as black women are rarely rewarded for their influence and works.
Minaj expressed her disappointment despite having three nominations. She was nominated for best collaboration for the song "Bang Bang" with Ariana Grande and Jessie J, and her song "Anaconda" was nominated for best hip-hop video and best female performance.
However, her songs missed out other major categories. Minaj also felt that her collaboration with Beyonce in the song "Feeling Myself" was also snubbed this year. Minaj tweeted: "If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year."
Taylor Swift couldn't help but react to the statement since report suggests that the rapper was clearly referring to her "Bad Blood" music video which was nominated for Video of the Year. The music video features Swift and her friends like Cara Delavigne, Ellie Goulding and Lena Dunham as well as other famous supermodels and actresses.
Swift replied to Minaj, saying, "I've done nothing but love and support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot." Minaj, in her defense, replied that she did not intend calling out Swift for her nominations and instead asked for the singer's support and said that she should also speak up about the issue.
According to US Magazine, Swift garnered nine different nominations this year and this includes the Video of the Year nomination for her "Bad Blood" song. Other nominees in the same category included videos from Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars, and Kendrick Lamar.
MTV Video Music Awards will air on August 30 and it will be hosted by Miley Cyrus.
