"Orange is the New Black" star Michael Harney, who plays the role of Sam Healy, recently opened up about the upcoming fourth season of the Netflix series. In an interview with the International Business Times, Harney talked about his character Sam and how his personality has been peeled off from the first season until the third. According to him, more information about Sam will be unveiled in Season 4 and fans can expect new stuff to happen to him.
When asked what scenes he would like to have in Season 4, Harney said that he wants to have more onscreen moments with Red (Kate Mulgrew). "I really enjoy the scenes I had with Red in Season 3. So I'm hoping we have a chance to work together again. Artistically, that's very fulfilling for both of us, I believe, so there's that. But I approach it like it's a blank canvass," he said.
Harney also said that he's extremely pleased with how his character's relationship with Red developed in Season 3. "The thing that turns me on most about the show is the fact that I get to - what you said at the very beginning of our talk today - there's so many layers that I get to the opportunity to explore and they're really endless."
Meanwhile, other than Sam and Red, Harney also revealed that he's excited to see how what will happen to his character and Birdie (Stephen Blake).
"Yes, she's wonderful. That was a really nice segment of life there. And I don't know. We'll see. You're good though. You keep trying to get these spoilers out of me," he joked.
In other news, the upcoming fourth season of "Orange is the New Black" may or may not see the return of Matt McGorry's character John Bennett. According to Master Herald, the writers of the series are still contemplating on whether or not they will write a story about him.
