Pentagon Confirmed the Death of Khorasan Group Leader Muhsin al-Fadhli

It can be remembered that the terrorist attack on US soil on September 11, 2001, dubbed as the 9/11 attack, marked the beginning of Americas' Global War on Terrorism (GWOT). The campaign led the United States and other allies to a global crusade against militant extremist organizations, primarily against the Al-Qaeda network.

The death of Osama bin Laden on the hands of US Special Forces after their successful covert mission in Pakistan is considered as the most significant moment in the US campaign against al-Qaeda. And just recently, the Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis confirmed the death Khorasan Group Leader Muhsin al-Fadhli on July 8.

According to the military intelligence gathered, Muhsin al-Fadhli "is a senior al-Qaeda facilitator who was among the few trusted al-Qaeda leaders that received advanced notification of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks," al-Fadhli was accordingly also involved in a 2002 attack on Faylaka Island Kuwait which took the life of a U.S Marine.

Based on the reports, it was the second air strike attempt to kill Muhsin al-Fadhili. The Kuwaiti-born jihadist, with a $7 million bounty on his head, managed to escape his death from the first air-strike carried out last September of 2014. But when the United States carried out another airstrike targeting a vehicle near the town of Sarmada in northwest Syria last July 8, 2015, al-Fadhi faced death.

In a written statement Capt. Jeff Davis said that "His (Muhsin al-Fadhili) death will degrade and disrupt ongoing external operations of al-Qaeda against the United States and our allies and partners."

With the success of another terror campaign being perpetuated by the US and their allies, hopes are high that the fear for terrorism would soon disappear. The scar left by the 9/11 attack serves as a reminder to all that terrorism is a global concern. It is not just a military concern but everyone's concern.
