A kitchen is not just a place for cooking but also for entertaining. Architectural Digest, in its post, showed various kitchen designs by experts. Such experts provided tips on how to design your kitchen. Here are some of them:
Nate Berkus, an interior designer, said that a kitchen is all about entertaining. "Indoors or outdoors, it's all about easy entertaining-having everything at your fingertips. To understand what you want your kitchen to be, you must know how you plan to use it."
Elissa Cullman, Cullman & Kravis Interior Designer, said that a space should be integrated into the overall aesthetic of a residence. An outdoor kitchen should be like an organic extension of the inside.
Bar Architects' Richard Beard said that lighting is key. "Lighting is key to an outside setting. Devote the same attention and sensibility to it as you would any inside room. Otherwise you'll be running around with flashlights."
Richard Landry, an architect, considers safety and layout in his design. "As children may be running around, you always need to make sure that the barbecue is not on a main path of traffic. And if the hosts are planning on doing their own cooking, you need to situate the barbecue so they can face their guests while grilling."
Outdoor kitchen should also be resistant to weather, says Juergen Riehm, architect at 1100 Architect. "We advise marine-grade finishes for their greater resistance to weather. Our priority is durability."
Jerry Hupy, an architect at Shope Reno Wharton, said that kitchens should be self-contained. "The best outdoor kitchens are self-contained. They should account for everything: cooking, refrigeration, dishwashing, and cabinetry."
Interior Designer Thom Filicia advises to make use of outdoor rugs to give texture, color and pattern. "Outdoor rugs are a great way to add texture, color, and pattern while softening a terrace or deck."
William T. Georgis, Architect/Designer, said that he prefers to have all the convenience of indoor cooking included outdoors. "At my home in La Jolla, California, all the conveniences of indoor cooking are included outdoors. I have a Primo ceramic natural-charcoal grill, which is also able to smoke. But I bought a Lynx gas grill as well for larger parties and shorter prep times. If you don't want two different appliances, Kalamazoo hybrid models are an excellent alternative, burning gas, charcoal, and wood."
A sponsored post on Dwell, on the other hand, points out that quality, technology, ease of use, materials and open plan lay out are the essentials of the modern kitchen. It said that homeowners should look for high-quality products that will support their lifestyle for many years. It added that durable materials are a crucial element of the modern kitchen.
The open plan layout for kitchens is also recommended as the modern kitchen has become a central part of the home. The kitchen becomes a key area for cooking and socializing and is enjoyed throughout the day, not just at meal times.
