McLaren Super Series: McLaren 675 LT Offers a More Active Aerodynamics

Lighter, louder, faster...that is the new McLaren 675 LT in a nutshell. The McLaren 675 LT is part of the McLaren Super Series. LT stands for Longtail, a subtle reference to the iconic McLaren F1 Longtail from the 90s. The 675 LT is slightly longer by only 1.3 inches than the 650S, but there is more that connects the idea behind the 675 LT with the F1 GTR Longtail.

According to Motor Trend, its rear wing is 50 percent bigger than the similar piece on the 650S, giving it a more active aerodynamics, as well as enhanced stopping power when it flips up into an airbrake. The entire rear assembly of the car is new and made of carbon fiber. The only body panels shared with the 650S is the hood, front fenders, doors, A-pillars, and roof.

And there is more--the 675 LT is lighter. Most of the weight-saving comes from the new seats, wheels and carbon fiber body parts. There's even no carpet on the cabin floor. This diet makes the 675LT weigh only 3,019 pounds.

At the heart of the 675 LT is a completely overhauled version of the 650S V8 engine. With this engine and with the lightness of the car, its speed can clock in at 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and at 0-124 mph in just 7.9 seconds. The top speed? 205 mph. Such numbers will make many hypercar owners nervous, says Motor Trend.

According to a review made by Car and Driver, the McLaren 675 LT also combines incredible performance and track focus with comfort for everyday use and street appeal. The LT feels very firm at low speeds even with the dampers left in their softest mode. This ensures a comfortable ride.

Another good news is that its chassis gets better when speed is added. The body control is reportedly outstanding over rougher surfaces, and the resistance to roll under cornering is almost total.

McLaren will only release 500 units worldwide, with fewer than 180 of those likely to come to the United States. The 2016 McLaren 675LT will be available at the base price of $350,000. Its launching date is yet to be confirmed--and McLaren lovers will be waiting and anticipating until then.
