The second annual Alternative Press Music Awards was held in Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio on Wednesday night and listed below are the main highlights of the show and the big winners.
According to Cleveland.com, the alternative rock band All Time Low dominated the show as Jack and Alex were the hosts and the band also took home three awards. Aside from that, it was reported that the band performed a powerful medley during the show. The opening consisted songs by Joan Jett ("Bad Reputation"), Ramones ("Blitzkrieg Bop"), Clash ("Should I Stay Or Should I Go"), Nirvana ("Smells Like Teen Spirit"), Green Day ("Basket Case), Jimmy Eat World ("The Middle"), Blink 182 ("What's My Age Again") and Fall Out Boy ("Sugar We're Going Down"). They also performed one of their original hits titled "Something's Gotta Give."
According to Time, the metalcore bandIssues was declared the Artist of the Year while the Black Veil Brides won the Best Album award. The British rock band 1975, meanwhile, won the Best International Band award.
One of the highlights of the show is when Paramore frontwoman Haley Williams was named as the Best Vocalist. The award follows the accomplishments of the singer with the band's successful singles like "Ain't It Fun" and "Still Into You." In her acceptance speech, Williams said, "I love to sing funk music, punk music, pop music and most of all, I love to sing Paramore."
Another highlight of the show was the reunion of the band Sum 41. According to Metro UK, the band was on an extended break after their frontman Deryck Whitby revealed that he had health issues. The rock singer had a massive health scare back in 2014 because of his problem with alcoholism. According to reports, he collapsed in his home and was later put into a coma when his kidney and liver began to fail. For the complete list of winners, click here.
