Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or commonly known as ADHD has been affecting school-aged children from all over the world. It is when a child is having a problem in concentrating on a given task, making it hard for him to do something that requires long attention span.
As per News on Wellness, National Institutes of Natural Sciences did a research on the recognition of facial expressions in children which are diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
These studies were conducted with two groups: the first group does not acquire ADHD children while the other half is diagnosed with the ADHD. The researchers then used hemodynamic response to measure the facial expression of both groups.
Science Direct then highlighted the fact that: ADHD children showed hemodynamic response to happy face but not to angry faces. It was then reported that those of which who have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have difficulty in recognizing facial expressions. Compared to those who do not have ADHD, the children who were diagnosed identified the angry expression less accurately.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder symptoms are hyperactivity, inattention, and most frequently surfacing is their impulsive behavior. ADHD can sometimes cause children to be aloof, and would sometimes tend to stay away from their peers. They also may have a hard time in coping with school since they do have short attention span which also gives then the difficulty to mingle with their peers. Children diagnosed with ADHD are easily distracted by extraneous stimuli and is most likely to be forgetful in daily activities.
Though there is no said cure for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, psychologists would often let them undergo psychotherapy for both the child and the parents for the patient to have a stable support group. Medications are sometimes prescribed on some extreme cases, but taking medication for ADHD requires the therapist's prescription and approval.
