Bratislava-based architectural studio Nice Architects introduced the newest innovation in portable housing and comfortable living, the Ecocapsule. The Ecocapsule is what you get when you combine the portability of tents and the comfort of an RV.
The Ecocapsule is a movable, self-sufficient, flexible, and egg-shaped home that can be used as an independent research station, a tourist lodge, an emergency housing, or a humanitarian-action unit.
The mini-home has the facility to collect rain water, a solar panel, and a retractable wind turbine. The inside is quite spacious and can easily accommodate two people. The 86 square feet futuristic house also has a built-in kitchenette with running water, a flushing toilet, and a hot shower. "The biggest challenge was to integrate all the different technologies into the small body of the pod and still have some space left for people," Nice Architects told Bored Panda.
The Ecocapsule has the dimensions (height x length x width) of 2.55x4.45x2.25 in meters. It can also be easily moved or transported by being towed, or by placing on the back of a truck or in a shipping container.
Power shortage is not a problem with this self-sufficient smart home. The built-in solar panel and wind turbine can provide a power output up to 600W and 750W respectively. It also has a battery that can store 9744Wh. The Ecocapsule also has its own water reservoir. "The first design used multistage water recycling technology. Now we simplified the system and replaced the flushing toilet with composting. We are still searching for an ultimate solution," said Nice Architects.
There is still no price to the Ecocapsule, but Nice Architects will start taking orders in the last quarter of 2015. Pre-ordered Ecocapsule units will then be delivered in the first half of 2016. Nice Architects also announced that the camper version of the Ecocapsule, which has an added chassis, will be ready by the end of 2016. Other customizations will also be available in later years after the initial release.
