"Sherlock" Season 4 has no official release date yet, but fans are being teased with numerous plot and character spoilers. It was earlier reported that the show will start production by mid-2016, so Season 4 will probably air by 2017.
According to BBC producer Steven Moffat, Season 4 will have more unexpected twists and surprises. In his interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said that Season 4 will definitely be better than Season 3. He also added that the upcoming season will also be darker compared to the past seasons. He said that they are trying to take the story somewhere it has never been before. [Spoiler Alert!]
Fans should also expect that a major character will die in Season 4. According to Crossmap, based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's version, Mary is set to die after giving birth to her child with Watson (Martin Freeman). It was already known that Mary (Amanda Abbington) was pregnant as it was revealed in Season 3. Speculations are circulating that Watson and Mary will be married before she gives birth to their child. However, Freeman revealed in an earlier interview that Mary dying may not happen in the show.
It was also reported that women will play bigger parts in Season 4. It was earlier revealed that Yasmine Akram's character Janine might come back for Season 4. Molly (Louise Brealey) is also said to have a bigger role in the upcoming season. She and Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs) is said to have a really close relationship and will have a great friendship in the show.
It is also said that a third Holmes will appear in Season 4. The third Holmes' name is Sherrinford Holmes and rumor has it that Tom Hiddleston will play the third Holmes brother.
Fans will just have to wait for another two years when "Sherlock Holmes" Season 4 returns to find out if these rumors are true.
