A new rumor has surfaced saying that Valve's "Half-Life 3" is in the works but is progressing very slowly. This recent speculation was claimed by a group called The Know which reportedly confirmed that "Half-Life 3" will be released soon. However, the video game's release date is something Valve has yet to announce, a report from Design & Trend said on Wednesday.
According to Design & Trend, a known Valve insider, who is also The Know's source, has confirmed that "Half-Life 3" is actually happening. The source also pointed out that the group of people who are currently developing the video game is composed of only a "skeleton crew," which has 10 people on board.
The report said that the video game's script, at present, is already complete. The next step would be moving all the game's assets into a playable platform, but the mission to finish the game has reportedly been "increasingly difficult" for the team.
However, according to a Reddit forum, the recent report that claims the "Half-Life 3" script is finished has apparently reached the company. This prompted an employee from Valve to issue a statement addressing the speculation that has been doing rounds on various gaming forums lately.
"I can't comment on Valve's internal process, but I can say that it sounds like someone is trolling. Anonymous sources have been posting speculation masquerading as inside knowledge since the Half-Life 1 delay in 1997. If that's any comfort, please rest assured that in my experience at Valve, fear is the last thing that would ever drive a decision about what to work on," Valve's Marc Laidlaw said, as quoted in the aforementioned website.
"There's a misunderstanding that I've always tried to address straight on when this question comes up, which is that a Half-Life story can somehow exist outside of a game. It can't. The story is created through the process of trying to figure out how to best use the features of the engine within the interesting set of constraints it poses. The story is a part of the game. It doesn't exist as a separate script that is handed off to game designers which they are expected to somehow make compelling through puzzles and combat. The story develops while trying to solve the problem of how to make a fun game," Laidlaw explained.
Meanwhile, Design & Trend reported that the snail-paced development of the "Half-Life 3" video game is due to the removal of coders from the project.
