Edsel Ford’s 1915 Cross-Country Trip in a Model T Was Recreated

The Historical Vehicle Association (HVA) recently set off on the Road Trip Century Celebration by recreating Edsel's journey from Detroit to San Francisco. To make it possible, the HVA restored the 1915 Ford Model T Touring, the same model that Edsel Ford used in his journey.

According to a report by Car and Driver, the recreation of Ford's journey will be routing in Indianapolis, Saint Louis, Kansas City, Albuquerque, the Grand Canyon, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. This route has been reconstructed with the help of Ford's diary.

The trip started on Friday, July 17, at the very same spot Edsel and his pals started their epic journey a hundred years ago. The route will cover 3,565 miles, with numerous stops of interest scheduled along the way.

It will stop in Auburn, Indiana at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum on its Day 1, after a relatively short 156-mile jaunt with the T averaging 25 to 35 mph.

Following are the gang's four-day experience so far into the road trip:

The gang took a 164-mile run to Indianapolis and had a stop over at the Speedway. Day 3 was as enjoyable as the recent days as they had their overnight in Saint Louis followed by another 260 miles of road running.

Their Day 4 was from Saint Louis heading to Jefferson City, Missouri. Due to heavy traffic conditions in and around Saint Louis, the team wasn't able to get the cars close enough to the Gateway Arch for a photo session before departing.

They took the moment to have a picture at the Historic Daniel Boone Home and Heritage Center in Defiance, Missouri, featuring the cars in front of one of the antique buildings on the site, namely the restored Newton Howell house.

Their journey is currently on-going and is scheduled to conclude in San Francisco on August 18.

For the record, Edsel Ford's trip is considered as a historic piece because it was so well-documented and was made for personal reasons, Bold Ride reports.

Ford, together with his six friends, went on the road with his Model T as well as a 1915 Cadillac V8 and a 1915 Stutz 6-F Touring. During Ford's time, the 1915 Model T had a tag price of about $600, while the Cadillac was at least $1,975, and the Stutz was at least $1,725.
