The Empire State building has been all out to participate in protecting wildlife. It has been days since the death of beloved Zimbabwean lion Cecil but the advocacy never dies with her.
The Real Deal reports that enormous images of endangered animals had been projected across the Empire State building.
The event has been dubbed as the "weapon of mass instruction" by Tavis Threlkel and his co-creator Louie Psihoyos. According to them, to put their message across, they need to create something beautiful and "not bum people out." "Hopefully, this is one big domino. If we can tip it, it would be great," Threlkel told NY Times.
The concept was like "Noah's ark" of endangered animals. The images were projected using 40 stacked projectors that were operated on the roof top of West 31st Street building. Among the animals that were parade in the show are a golden lion tamarin, snakes, birds, snow leopard, manta rays, and various mammals as well as sea creatures.
This event has been long-planned by Tavis Threlkel and Louie Psihoyos. But it took them almost 3 years to materialize with the help of Television producer Norman Lear, who had approached the office of Mayor Bill de Blasio. Somehow, connections to the right office make things happened. This is the first time that this kind of event has been allowed since there are strict laws concerning projecting images on buildings.
New York CBS local news has reported also the said event. It says that the purpose of the said event that was pulled by the Oceanic Preservation Society founder Louis Psihoyos together with his friends Tavis Threlkel and Fisher Stevens is to "to raise awareness of potential mass extinction and inspire global conservation action."
The death of Cecil has paved the way for this event to turn up in the city of New York and in the iconic building- Empire State building.
