MarketWatch reports that The Kraft Heinz Company or KHC, +1.36% has voluntarily recalled 36,000 cases of Kraft Singles for fear that they might make you choke. But the choking hazard is not with the cheese, rather the company says that it is the wrapping on the individual cheese slices that may present a choking hazard.
According to a statement by the company: "A thin strip of the individual packaging film may remain adhered to the slice after the wrapper has been removed. If the film sticks to the slice and is not removed, it could potentially cause a choking hazard."
The recall applies to Kraft Heinz Company cheese products like 3-pound and 4-pound sizes of Kraft Singles American and White American pasteurized prepared cheese product marks that indicates "Best When Used By Date of December 29, 2015 through January 4, 2016".
Recently, there have been 10 consumer complaints regarding the packaging, and three of these complaints involved reports about consumers choking, according to the cheese company. "Consumers who purchased this product should not eat it," the company said publicly on Friday. Furthermore they advised those who bought the products, "They should return it to the store where purchased for an exchange or full refund. Consumers in the U.S. and Puerto Rico can also contact Kraft Heinz Consumer Relations for a full refund, at 1-800-432-3101, Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm Eastern."
Moreover, this isn't the first time this year Kraft has recalled some of its products. It can be easily remembered way back in March, that the company recalled some of its Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Dinners because of the possibility that some boxes contain small bits of metal. It seems that Kraft should put in a stricter quality control measures in the packaging department.
