Zayn Malik shocked One Direction fans when he left the popular band in March after claiming that he wanted to be a normal 22-year-old. However, on Monday Liam Payne set the record straight on BBC's Radio 1 with host Nick Grimshaw telling that Malik left the group because the boyband's music was never Malik's type.
Payne clarified that there's no blood between Malik and the band and that he's happy that Malik is now set to do what he truly loves. Payne also claimed that he's happy that both of them chose to remain friends despite Malik's departure from the British band, International Business Times reports.
"One Direction was never Zayn's sort of music so he always wanted to find something else," Payne said during an interview on BBC's Radio 1. "If your heart's not into something, you can't just carry on doing it because of fame and stuff. You have to go and do what you want to do."
Payne was also glad about Malik's recent engagement with RCA last week, according to People. Malik signed a contract with RCA Music with the help of his mentor Simon Cowell after Malik's infamous Twitter rant against his collaborator Naughty Boy surfaced.
The news comes at the height of One Direction's plan to take a hiatus after the release of their fifth album, which is scheduled to be out in November.
Meanwhile, One Direction has also released their single "Drag Me Down," their first single after Malik departed from the group. Malik quickly commented on the band's latest single claiming it is "sick" and that he was proud of his former bandmates.
In other news, in the Magic FM's Jo Parkerson interview, Payne revealed how surprised he was when he learned of Louis Tomlinson's baby news, INQUISTR reports. Payne shared that Tomlinson is excited with what is going on with his life at the moment and that his girlfriend, expectant mother Briana Jungwirth, is a "lovely girl."
