Rumor has it that tech giant Apple is set to announce this September a new Apple TV. The rumored Apple TV will feature a newly redesigned remote control, an increased storage capacity, a new operating system that supports Siri, an A8 chip and a slimmer chassis. Apple's next-generation TV is also expected to feature an in-built Touch ID feature, a report from IGN stated on Monday.
A report from Pocket Link revealed that the Apple TV's remote control is made of aluminium. At the back portion of the television, users will be able to see the various TV ports such as the power in, HDMI out, optical audio out, Ethernet, and a Micro-USB socket. The television also has the capability to connect to the Internet through wireless connectivity.
Aside from Apple TV's connectivity features, the television also supports AirPlay, Family Sharing and iCloud Photo Support, which will allow iOS-powered devices and computers using iTunes to successfully stream music and other contents to the Apple TV. Apple TV also has the capability to play movies, music, podcasts and various television shows via iTunes including those from third-party channels.
A related report from 9to5Mac states that the rumored prototypes of the upcoming Apple TV are expected to become as "twice as large" compared to the present Apple TV box. The report, however, stressed that the upcoming product will be slimmer than the current version being sold in the market today.
According to Forbes, a dedicated App Store for the Apple TV is expected along with the software development kit (SDK) intended for the developers to build applications for the media streaming devices. The report noted that Apple has been rumored to launch a TV service using a web platform. The TV service reportedly includes 25 channels, and users will be charged $30-$40 per month. The service, as Forbes noted, will compete head-to-head with Sling TV which offers more diverse channels.
It was later reported, however, that Apple claimed it is unlikely to offer a web-based TV service.
