Max von Sydow Joins Game of Thrones as the Three Eyed Raven

It was reported by The Hollywood Reporter that a veteran actor will play the mysterious and powerful character in the hit TV series Game of Thrones.

This actor, no other than Max von Sydow, is also known for feature films like The Exorcist and Minority Report. He is also said to be part of the upcoming movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Now, it is confirmed that the famed performer has signed on to the Season 6 HBO's Game of Thrones.

Veteran actor Max von Sydow will be cast in the HBO hit at the mysterious Three-Eyed Raven. Back in the finale of season four, this mysterious and powerful character was last seen and played by Struan Rodger. That season finale depicted the Three Eyed Raven as a tutor to Bran Stark, played by Isaac Hempstead Wright, who has developed Warg powers, which give him the ability to enter the bodies of animals. His story was suspended for season five leaving GOT fans speculating when his character would return after being under the guidance of the Three Eyed Raven.

It has also been rumored that along with Sydow, another famous European thespian will also be appearing in the next season. EW has reported that Deadwood star, Ian McShane, will be appearing in the next season of the hit fantasy series. But unlike Sydow, McShane's character is still a mystery. Both McShane and von Sydow are expected to have minimal screen time in the series but their roles are critical in their own way.

Game of Thrones is currently in production with Max von Sydow on the set. The emmy-nominated series is expected to return for season 8 with 10 episodes next spring. According to EW, President Michael Lombardo revealed that the HBO plans at least eight seasons of the fantasy series.
