Kelly Clarkson only wants happiness for her in-laws and for the two to remain committed to each other. The singer previously urged the couple to stay together and was reportedly the reason why Reba McEntire and husband Narvel Blackstock did not separate a lot sooner than this week's announcement.
An insider exclusively told Us Weekly that McEntire and Blackstock has been living apart for the past two years, but it was Clarkson who urged her in-laws not to separate. "She's the reason they didn't split earlier," the insider revealed. The source also added that Clarkson has been fighting for the two to stay together and make things work.
Clarkson is the wife of Brandon Blackstock, who is McEntire's ex-husband's son from another relationship. The "Heartbeat Song" singer wed Brandon in October 2013 and reportedly spent several game nights together with her in-laws. Clarkson previously told Rolling Stone how they would play games together as a family. "My sister, my mom, me and [mother-in-law] are the gamers in the family. Everyone else we just drag into it. Reba and I are both competitive - she'll tell you she's not, but she's a liar. I can win Sequence, but if we play backgammon or Mexican Train dominoes, she kills me. She's like a backgammon magician," Clarkson shared.
Clarkson added, "Our family gatherings are just a bunch of grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Our job is very egocentric, so it's nice to be able to reflect on something else."
Meanwhile, McEntire and Blackstock announced their separation on Monday, reports People, through a joint statement, which read: "Despite this being the end of their marriage, they continue to support each other. They have worked together for 35 years and will continue to do so. They have asked that you respect their privacy during this time."
McEntire and Blackstone were married for 26 years before they announced their split.
