Gunman in Indiana standoff dies in real estate office

A gunman took hostages in an Indiana real estate office on Friday, releasing them only eight hours later before shooting himself in the head, according to reports.

The gunman died at a hospital in Valparaiso, Indiana, about 40 miles southeast of Chicago, police said, according to Associated Press.

The man was looking for someone he believed owed him money when he went into the Prudential Executive Group Real Estate office in Valparaiso on Friday morning.

Valparaiso Police Chief Michael Brickner said officers believe the gunman shot himself twice in the head before SWAT members rushed in almost seven hours later, after the last two hostages were released unharmed.

One woman released from the office suffered a minor head injury caused by the gunman, but not from a gunshot, police said. No hostages were reported being shot.
His identity has not been released as the police are still searching for relatives.
