Atlanta United has already made the site in DeKalb County its new home. According to a news report by the Atlanta United FC, DeKalb Interim CEO Lee May and members of the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners officially confirmed last Tuesday that the headquarters and training facility of the Atlanta United will soon rise on DeKalb County.
As reported by the Atlanta United FC, a warm welcome was served by May to their new partner saying:
"We are excited to have Atlanta United FC as the cornerstone of our new 'Downtown DeKalb' and as the catalyst for revitalization of the Memorial Drive corridor. Not many people know this, but this location is right across the street from the first Home Depot store. In a way, this is a homecoming, and DeKalb County welcomes Arthur Blank back home with open arms."
The economic development facility would be 41 acres of county-owned land lying near Kensington Road and Memorial Drive. The project will be provided by the DeKalb County via ground lease to Decide DeKalb. A demolition will also be made with the existing buildings that are no longer useful to county assets, to which Decide DeKalb will be in charge of. Decide DeKalb will also be responsible in some land preparations of the property.
According to a report by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the soccer complex project costs about $30 million, and was made possible by the vote of 4-3 from the DeKalb County Commission.
Atlanta United will construct a stadium that features a 3,500-seat capacity, three practice fields, and a two-story team headquarters behind the DeKalb Jail.
6,000 square feet of office space will cost $7 million and $5 million for land preparation, with all of this under the deal. It was also reported that Atlanta United can use the land even without paying the property taxes for 30 years, before it reverts back to the county.
