'Shooter' TV Show: USA Network Brings Film To Small Screen, Casts Ryan Phillippe As Lead

Mark Wahlberg has been making his name in the industry as a renowned producer, and this time he will be producing the television series of the movie hit "Shooter." According to Screen Rant, the former rapper has already produced some of the hit cable television series like "Entourage," which he helped usher into a full-length film, and "Boardwalk Empire."

USA Network has picked up the television series version of the Antoine Fuqua movie based on the novel by Stephen Hunter, which was released in 2007. Wahlberg will be featured alongside Ryan Phillippe, who was confirmed to be the main protagonist, Bob Lee Swagger.

Swagger is a former Marine sniper who returns to the job to help prevent the President's assassination. However, Swagger will be put in a tight situation as he ends up being framed for the attempted murder of the President. He is now on the quest to find out the true culprit of the crime.

According to Coming Soon, Phillippe is also the show's producer alongside Wahlberg. Meanwhile, John Hlavin will be writing the story for the pilot episode and Simon Cellan Jones will serve as its director.

Phillippe is not new to television stunts as he has just finished his work in the ABC anthology mystery series, "Secrets and Lies." He also produced and co-wrote the 2014 thriller, "Catch Hell." Aside from that, he also appeared in numerous films like "White Squall," "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Cruel Intentions."

"Shooter" will reportedly center heavily on the conspiracy aspects of the original material. It will focus on elements about the ingenuity and courage of a U.S. veteran and the military background for him to fight a sophisticated conspiracy against him. As of writing, there is still no confirmation about the show's release date.
