The cast of the upcoming NBC musical live show just keeps on growing. In an exclusive report by E Online, the site revealed that "Orange Is The New Black" star Uzo Aduba, along with "Glee" alum Amber Riley, will be joining the all-star cast of "The Wiz."
According to the report, the stars will be sisters in the show. Emmy Award winner Aduba will be playing the Good Witch Glinda, and Riley will be playing the role of Glinda's sister, the Good Witch of the North, Addaperle.
The show's executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron revealed that they are excited about the addition of the two actresses. They added that they have admired the both actresses and that they wanted so much to work with them.
They also wanted to reveal Aduba's remarkable singing voice in the show and to pair it up with Riley's musical talents. The website revealed that before starring in "Orange Is The New Black," Aduba already starred in a Broadway musical from 2011 to 2012. She starred in the Broadway revival of "Godspell."
Glinda of 1975 Broadway show "The Wiz" was portrayed by Grammy winner Dee Dee Bridgewater. In the 1978 movie, Lena Horne, who is also a Grammy-winning artist, took the same role.
Aduba will be alongside other confirmed cast members, which include Queen Latifah, who will play the infamous wizard; Mary J. Blige who will play Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West; and David Alan Grier, who will play the cowardly lion.
It was earlier reported that a newcomer will be added to the show as Shanice Williams who is a New Jersey native was cast to play the role of Dorothy. According to the reports, the 18-year-old was chosen in the nationwide search and open cast calls held in New York and Los Angeles.
"The Wiz" live will be airing on NBC on December 3.
