"PEZ Candy Dispenser" Movie in the Works

"Lego did it so we will too." This seems to be the common thought among toy manufacturers when they entrusted their brands to film production companies. And with Hollywood appearing to be a big fan of toy-inspired media, it's not a surprise that Lego, a toy building brick, hit the red carpet.

The success of "The Lego Movie" inspired many production houses to explore pop culture icons. Sony Pictures Animation announced that it will be making an animated feature film based on Emojis, icons that social media and text message fanatics are so fond of. Last April there were news as well about Play-Doh getting its own live-action movie to be helmed by "Ghosbusters" reboot director Paul Feig. The board game Monopoly is also getting a big screen treatment with Andrew Niccol as the scriptwriter. Toy giant Hasbro and Lionsgate are also teaming up for the "Hungry Hungry Hippos" movie.

Recently, Envision Media Arts (EMA) has entered into an exclusive agreement with PEZ Candy Inc. to develop an animated feature based on the celebrated lozenge dispensers with flip-up heads.

PEZ Candy was created in 1927, but it was only in 1955 that PEZ created a series of character designs that both kids and adults loved. According to PEZ, their candies are available globally and the U.S. alone consumes over 3 billion PEZ candies every year. Lee Nelson and David Buelow will produce for EMA. Gregg Rossen, Brian Sawyer, Jonathan Hung and EMA's Favid Tish will executive produce the upcoming movie. Cameron Fay, whose claim to fame includes "The Three Stooges Movie" and "Brother In Law," will be penning the movie.

"PEZ Candy is beloved by children and adults alike. With Cameron Fay we've created a world unique to Pez and a story that will touch the hearts of many," said EMA CEO and founder Lee Nelson.
