Taylor Swift Faces Lawsuit; Lucky Number Brings Her Bad Luck Over Trademark Infringement

Taylor Swift has previously said that her lucky number is 13. However, the recent lawsuit filed against her apparently proves that the number 13 could also work against her, as the "Bad Blood" singer was called to testify under oath regarding the Lucky 13 trademark infringement case she is currently facing.

The singer was sued by Robert Kloetzly, the head of California-based Lucky 13, who's accusing Swift of "ripping off his rock and roll fashion line."

Swift is known for hiring premium lawyers, but the judge has apparently denied her camp's requests in court. Her lawyers reportedly tried everything to limit questions asked to her and to cut the time she has to appear but they failed. The seven-time Grammy Award winner still has to face the charges in court in due time.

The 25-year-old's reps released a statement saying that the case proceedings were intentional to halt Swift's world tour. "The owner of Lucky 13 wants to harass Taylor into a settlement by forcing her into a deposition knowing full well the disruption it would cause given her ongoing world tour," the singer's representative told E! News.

The case was filed by the apparel company Lucky 13 in May 2014, which accuses the "Blank Space" singer of unauthorized use of Lucky 13's federally registered trademark, i4u.com reports. The company is also accusing the singer of marketing to their target customers who are gothic afficionados and bikers.

The case was filed in Orange County, California court after the owner Kloetzly noticed that the best-selling artist was selling t-shirts and greeting cards with a shamrock design of Lucky 13. According to the court documents, Kloetzly is asking for damages and all of her profits from her business.

In Swift's interview with MTV News in 2009, the singer/songwriter explained the significance of number 13 in her life. She shared that she even painted the number on her hand before every show because 13 is her lucky number.

"I was born on the 13th. I turned 13 on Friday the 13th. My first album went gold in 13 weeks. My first #1 song had a 13-second intro," she said. "Every time I've won an award I've been seated in either the 13th seat, the 13th row, the 13th section or row M, which is the 13th letter. Whenever a 13 comes up in my life, it's a good thing."

The case comes as another bump on Swift's career after she was engaged with Nicky Minaj in a Twitter war a few weeks back.
