A plain colored house in gray or hues of browns and dark colors can instantly lit aglow by incorporating metallic linings or accessories. Bronze, Gold and Silver will make any boring home add some feel of glam. Do not be scared of styling your home with metallic pieces as we will be tackling tips on how not to become overboard when styling with these.
Designer Natalie Kraiem from the article of Elle Décor shares five tips for us to achieve that right balance when styling our homes with metallics.
1. Soften it Out
Mixing metallic pieces like with softer textures help in balancing the look. Kraiem said from the article that, "I love mixing in textures like mohair, velvet, and wool to let the metallic accents contrast and stand out on their own. "
2. Keep the palette neutral.
We should use subdued color schemes if we want to use metallic pieces in our homes. Subdued Color Schemes such as those color palettes playing in lightest variations of violet, blue, black, flesh, brown and ochre yellow, see some samples via colorschemer.
Kraiem also suggested that brass is great when partnered with darker colors like black, navy and purple. Chrome, stainless and satin on the other hand goes well with palettes of gray, white and blue.
3. Mix it up.
It was suggested that you can play along and pairing up varieties of these metals. One can try mixing up brushed chrome with brass or nickel with brushed satin.
4. Stick with the classics
The classic metal pieces such as brass, chrome, silver or gold leaf are timeless as noted by Kraiem.
5. Start small
If you're planning to style your home in metallics, it was advised to start with the accessories first, as Kraiem pointed out that "They're easy to change out or move around the room to find the perfect balance."
If you're planning to level-up the look of your furniture like a rustic side table or an old chair to a metal finish, there are available metal paint finishes in the market for you to try like Krylon's Brushed Metallic Paints, Martha Stewart's Metallic Paint Line, Spray Paints and Metallic Latex Paint.
